Happy Walks for Happy Dogs
Lots and lots of fun in the snow this week!
Always Learning
This week’s learning was finishing watching the webinar on Resource Guarding by the brilliant The Mutty Professor, and continuing my practise with Brian, who has a history of resource guarding. He is becoming much more confident that I am not going to steal away his precious toy between his paws (“Brian, I really don’t want that slobbery toy thank you very much!”), so we have had less guarding. However, it’s important to remember that once a resource guarder, always a resource guarder, especially as this behaviour was learnt during his formative years, so will always have the potential to resurface.

Thought for the week – Is your dog doing extra sniffing with the snow?
Smells travel less in the cold, so dogs have to work harder to find them. Multiple sniffs allow the smells to build up in their nose (jacobson organ for the geeks). On the plus side, it is easier to spot the stronger smells when the weak ones are less noticeable. At least, Penny found the deer droppings easier to find this week!
